May/June 2010
President’s Message Mac Harris 527-9372
By the time you read this, the new board will have taken office. I want to thank Lee Proctor and her nominating committee for selecting a strong and capable group to manage the affairs of the Art Center. I am honored to have been asked to be a part of this board.
As we move into the new fiscal year, I want to thank Howard Harrison for his leadership as president the past three years, and Bob Vicari for his tireless efforts as assistant treasurer to keep up with the organization’s income for the past three years. I also want to thank Howard and Bob for the extraordinary effort they have made during the last three months to update and reorganize our financial records. This has been a long, tiring and thankless task that they took on, not for personal recognition, but for the good of the organization.
I am pleased to report that the Art Center is in good financial shape, with solid cash reserves to meet unexpected expenses and cash flow equal to current expenses. The most important responsibility of this board will be to assure that we maintain the organization’s financial stability as we plan for future programs and activities of the Art Center.
During our first meeting in May, the board will develop goals for the 2010-11 year, and put together the budget to fund these goals. If you have ideas for what the organization’s goals for the next year should be, please contact me or one of the other officers with your ideas. Lou Pulgrano is vice president of performing arts, Vincent Salterio is vice president of visual arts, “Doc” Weingarten is secretary of performing arts, Ann Christ is secretary of visual arts, Don Taylor is treasurer, and Carl Bykowski is the assistant treasurer.
The meeting of the executive board is at 9 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month. As with all meetings of the Art Center, this meeting is open, and members are welcome to observe the meeting.
I look forward to an exciting year, filled with quality art exhibits, entertaining plays, festivals, and a full plate of activities at the Art Center. Working together, we can accomplish miracles.
Mac

Notice! To all members . . .
Spring is here! We are still looking for those “way, way overdue” books. A few have come back, so we’ve crossed those names off the list, which is posted on the Library door. Check to see if your name is there.
See our baskets for magazines and books for sale. We are in the process of ordering a few new ones with the money from sales. Due to recent contributions, the bookcase behind the door had to be rearranged to make room for a few theatre books. We have many interesting books: Sumi-e painting, wild life, seascape, oils & crafts, colored pencil, water-soluble oil, and crafts and many more. Remember, we are never too young or too old to learn to get reacquainted.
