  1. The following post is an email from theater veteran Jim Farley regarding the King and I production at the Art Center Theatre.

Lynn and I saw the Saturday night show and we were just blown away. I have to say it was the best musical the Art Center Theater has ever done and, as you know, I've been in a number of them. The sets were exquisite, and the costumes breathtaking. The hard work and coordination of the back stage crew was apparent to a ...theater veteran like me. Dennis...well what can I say, he nailed the character of the King perfectly without having to resort to imitating Yul Brynner. He made the character his own. Stacey, as always, was charming and vivacious, with a voice that can make your heart sing. Her warm and obviously sincere interaction with the children was a delight. Shirley, should be on Broadway. It was amazing how Sharon was able to narrate the story of Eliza and Simon Legree and keep the timing in sync with the ballet without ever looking at it. Lynn is still talking about the Uncle Thomas ballet, and so am I. Don't let your choreographer get away, she is tops!

You and Sharon have done yourselves proud with the directing. It was obviously a massive project to put together, and I've seldom seen a show that appeared so flawless on the first Saturday of the run. I can't mention everyone individually (there are just too many) but everyone carried off their roles so well. I hate to use so many superlatives, but nothing else would be appropriate. I hope you will pass on my congratulations to the entire cast and crew. Break a leg everybody! Jim
